One of my very first jobs was working on the JFK Library as an Assistant Superintendent. I.M. Pei’s design left an indelible impression on me, and has informed my interest and expertise in constructability, manpower, and sequencing. There is great artistry in efficiently bringing a building or space to life, and delivering a beautifully crafted product. These principles have remained true as deliveries, regulatory requirements, and the speed of projects has changed, and it is these constants that will ensure continued success.
When we build let us think we build forever. Let it not be for present delight nor for present use alone. Let it be such work that our descendants will thank us for, and let us think, as we lay stone upon stone, that a time is to come when these stones will be held sacred because our hands have touched them.
