Our hosts will be the Old Tavern Inn at Grafton, Vermont, one of the state's premier resort properties. Restored to its 18th-century glory in 1965, it's received rave reviews. We'll also have Ben Serotta on hand to talk about frame building, several Serotta-authorized mechanics available to conduct pre-ride tune-ups, nightly receptions, and a great Saturday night barbecue and party to take it home. If you're up for it, this might be the most challenging ride you'll ever experience. We'll cover the 385 miles from Boston to Montreal in just four days, arriving in time for the Montreal Jazz Festival. Along the way we'll travel along an historic stage coach route, spin through scenic Vermont farmland, cool off with a refreshing swim in the Mad River, cross the Green Mountains over the Appalachian Gap (elevation 2,356 feet), spend a night on the Lake Champlain Islands, and soothe our well-exercised muscles in a hot tub or two. When it's over, you can expend any leftover energy you might have partying and listening to great music at the Jazz Festival. If you can cover the distance, we'll have you covered every mile en route with van-supported water, snack, and lunch breaks, some lightly traveled routes, and nightly doses of warm hospitality .

Get out of your place and spend a few days in ours. It's guaranteed to do wonders for your head. Especially when you consider that our place is central Vermont, one of the Northeast's premier cycling meccas. We'll take you over some of Vermont's steepest paved mountain roads in addition to some great flat country spinning. Whether you're training for an event or just want to get some serious mid-season miles in, this is an excellent way to make some new friends while experiencing the best of Vermont. And because the schedule features so many things for non-riders, this is a great event for the whole family. We'll stay at one inn, where we'll establish a three-day base camp, and while the riders ride the non-riders can swim, play tennis, shop, play golf, or just go on nature walks.

Sometimes we ride for exercise. Sometimes we ride for fun. And sometimes we ride for people who can't. This three-day event has been designed for a warm-up prior to the Pan-Mass Challenge , a 194-mile ride that raises money for the Dana Farber Institute's Jimmy Fund. Not only will you be raising money to help fight cancer, you'll ride through some of the area's most unforgettable scenery. This trip begins in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, on the Canadian border. We'll get started with a 100-mile ride to Waitsfield, culminating with a swim in the pool or a snooze on the porch of a country inn. After that, we'll ride south to Grafton, keeping the majestic Green Mountains in sight the entire way. On the final day, we'll cross the Connecticut River into New Hampshire then into Massachusetts, arriving in Sturbridge the night before the PMC. Last year Majic Mountain Riders helped raise $170,632 for the PMC. Good times. Great cause.

In the spirit of the Pan Mass Challenge, we've scheduled our own Vermont version of this important event to help raise money for the Dana Farber Institute's Jimmy Fund. Riders have the option of tackling a thigh-burning double gap ride stretching 85 miles or a more relaxed 50 scenic miles. Either way, it's a great way to ride through Vermont before the foliage crowds arrive, not to mention that it's an important cause. Both rides will be fully supported with water and snack stops and we'll celebrate the day with a dinner, party, and dancing to live music. To help ensure the event's success and to maximize its impact, we ask that each participant raise a minimum of $400. Also, if you can't ride, we encourage people to volunteer for any of the numerous tasks that an event on this scale requires. Call Majic Mountain for an event brochure and a registration package.

We're not sure why, perhaps it's because it's is so short, but Vermont celebrates the end of the cycling season like few other places-with one of the world's great natural fireworks displays. Red, orange, yellowthere's nothing like the Green Mountains in October. One of the best ways to enjoy it is on two wheels. The 6th Annual Harvest Party features riding that meanders through central Vermont, a golf tournament on the Sugarbush Golf Course, the camaraderie of old friends and new, plenty of things for non-riders to do like swimming, tennis, hiking, shopping, mountain biking, children's activities, and an awesome end-of-the-season party. See you next year!
