Many of Elaine's direct competitors have followed a growth model that can best be described as "bigger is better". As these organizations grow, senior management becomes disengaged and disconnected from the business of serving clients, and expansion of overhead costs forces client costs to increase. Next, the company needs to take on projects which do not fit the company's core competencies. The result: no one is happy.
